Amate Paper Drawings Mexican workers throughout Mexico strip the bark of the Amate tree, which is native to that region. They then cure it and form it into pieces according to the size desired by the artisan. Artisans from the neighboring cities then print a traditional pictorial scene and paint inside the design using colorful colors on the bark. The designs traditionally represent typical scenes of daily Mexican life, such as bull or cockfights, harvests, rodeos and special occasions, such as weddings and holidays.
