Alebrijes - Oaxacan Carved Animals
These unique animals are referred to as “Spirit in the Wood” by the Zapotecs of southern Mexico. The figures are hand-carved out of lightweight copal wood, which has unique twists and shapes to it. Then, the craftsmen decorate their creatures. Each piece imported by Arte Mexico is signed.

Handmade Bead Jewelry
The beadwork of the indigenous women of Mexico is drawn from ancient Aztec and Mayan symbols. Some patterns are loomed, others are free-form, stitched together to create a lacy effect. They create an array of bracelets, earrings, necklaces, key chains and purses. Common themes in these designs demonstrate the native Mexican’s reverence for nature.

Metal Art
This uniquely Mexican art form is created in central Mexico, primarily in Tonala and in San Miguel de Allende. Each item is created from a combination of tin, copper and brass. The design is then brightly-painted or acid-etched and hand torched at a high temperature to produce colorful patterns on the metal.
